The tariff hike ranges from 18 paisa to 86 paisa per unit in the price of power bought by from the Central Power Purchase Agency (CPPA) by power distribution firms.
The CPPA purchases power from all electricity producers including independent power producers, generation firms and hydroelectric power producers and sells it at an average price to distribution firms.
The hike has been made following appeals filed by distribution firms that desired adjustment of the increased electricity cost bought by them. The appeals stated that the power producers increased the electricity price because of the rise in furnace oil price in March 2009.
Quetta Electric Supply Company’s (QESCO) tariff has been decreased by 84 paisa to INR5.4382 per kWh.
NEPRA affirmed that QESCO was paying the CPPA INR5.6104 per kWh and the revised duty was declared following subtraction of the variance and adjustment of QESCO line losses which were 20.50%.
Peshawar Electric Supply Company has the highest tariff hike of 86 paisa per unit. The company’s line losses are 33.2%.
Islamabad Electric Supply Company’s tariff has been augmented by 44 paisa, while that of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) and Multan Electric Power company has increased by 43 paisa.
Amongst Pakistan’s eight distribution firms, HESCO has incurred the biggest line losses of 34%.
Faisalabad Electric Supply Company’s tariff has been increased by 39 paisa, while Gujaranwala Electric Power Company with 11.25% lines losses, has incurred the least tariff hike of 18 paisa.
