An official spokesman of the government was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying that on an average 1,068 lakh units of power was supplied per day to consumers during the current financial year.
During the eight years of the present government, the generation capacity had been augmented by 3,712.80MW, while during 1999 and 2005 only 724.4MW capacity was added.
"Power having emerged as the cornerstone of prosperity, progress and development, the state government, led by chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, is making all-out efforts to step-up power generation and strengthen transmission and distribution system," the official said.
During the past eight years, 340 new substations had been built while capacity of 574 substations augmented. In 2012-13 and 2013-14, INR18bn ($327.92m) was being spent for upgrading 37 transmission networks, the official noted.
