REC will supply 1MW of PV panels for residential rooftop installations across 25 housing blocks. HDB has executed this agreement as a part of its solar capability building program aimed at developing proficiency in solar energy generation with focus on design and installation and cost-effectiveness and enhanced maintainability.

REC, which plans to begin the installation of its Peak Energy Series modules for this project in the fourth quarter of 2010, has also developed an integrated and automated solar energy manufacturing site in Singapore, expected to reach full production capacity of 740MW for wafers, 550MW for cells and 590MW for modules by 2012.

Tay Poh, CEO of HDB, said: “As the public housing agency for Singapore with a stock of over 9000 residential blocks, HDB has a key role to play in supporting Singapore’s commitment to sustainable development.

“This is a huge step forward in our sustainable development efforts. HDB will continue to look into more ways to improve the living environment for residents through innovations and the optimization of environmental targets.”
