The company broke ground on the power plant on August 25, 2018, in the presence of representatives of Taiwan Power, Jan De Nul-Hitachi consortium and local authorities.
Under the first phase, the consortium will take up onshore cable installation to connect the existing onshore sub-station to the cable interface near shore.
Currently, onshore cables are being installed in an underground track of 13km of duct banks. Around 2km of horizontal directional drillings are taken up over 13 different locations and 45 prefabricated manholes are installed for these construction works.
Taiwanese subcontractor Star Energy is executing the onshore works, which are expected to be completed in 20 months. The connecting submarine cable will be installed in 2020.
Contract for the Changhua Offshore Wind Farm was awarded to Jan De Nul-Hitachi on 30 April 2018.
The project involves the manufacturing and installation of 21 5.2MW offshore wind turbines for the wind farm, being established off the coast of Fangyuan in central western Taiwan.
The works also include manufacturing and installation of equipment as well as operation and maintenance (O&M) for five years.
Jan De Nul Group is responsible for the design, fabrication and installation of the foundations, installation of wind turbines, supply and installation of offshore and onshore cables, and the upgrading of the substation.
Hitachi is responsible for manufacturing, assembly, O&M, and other works related to the wind turbines with downwind rotor. The foundations and wind turbines have been designed to withstand cyclonic waves and winds, and earthquake loads.
The wind turbines are planned to be manufactured in 2019 so that they can be delivered in early 2020.
The equipment is expected to be tested in 2020, and the completion is scheduled for the end of December 2020.
In July, Jan De Nul Group bagged an engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract from Parkwind for the 224MW Northwester 2 offshore wind farm off the Belgian coast
