One 132/11kV substation will supply power to two new shopping centers being built in Doha. The second 66/11kV substation, EZDAN-5, will serve a new residential area. The project is scheduled to be completed in around 14 months.

As part of the turnkey project, ABB will be responsible for the design, engineering, supply, construction and commissioning of the substations. The company will also supply gas-insulated and medium-voltage switchgear, transformers, low-voltage auxiliary systems and power cables.

The substations will be equipped with IEC 61850 compliant automation, control and protection systems. IEC 61850 is an international communications standard that ensures interoperability and open communications between substation devices and other grid installations.

Oleg Aleinikov, head of substations business at ABB, said: “These substations will enable more power to reach consumers, helping to meet increasing electricity demand and support the growing economy of the region.”
