BP has reached a settlement with Mitsui subsidiary MOEX Offshore and its affiliates over the Deepwater Horizon rig accident at the Macondo well.

The British oil company said it will immediately apply the payment to the $20bn trust that was established to meet claims relating to the disaster.

MOEX holds a 10% interest in the Macondo well, which was finally sealed in September last year.

BP chief executive Bob Dudley said that the company calls on the other parties involved in the Macondo well to follow the lead of the MOEX and Mitsui parties.
