Nee has received an aerospace doctorate degree from The John Hopkins University. At the University of Massachusetts, he established the Advanced Technology Center. He served as its initial director of the Advanced Technology Center. He is a professor emeritus at the University of Notre Dame. As a professor in the department of aerospace and mechanical engineering at Notre Dame, Nee created the applied engineering research laboratory.

Nee has published 54 professional papers. He also owns 52 patents. He served as an advisor to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, meteorology division. Nee is listed in American Men of Science and is a member of the American Federation of Musicians.
