As per the order, Nordex will supply 29 turbines from its N131/3900 series. In February, the company received the order to supply 34 of its turbines for the 132.6MW first phase of the Syvash wind project.

When the two phases will be completed in 2020, the Syvash wind project will have a total capacity of 245.7MW and will be the largest wind farm in the country. This wind farm will be located in the region of Kherson, on the north shore of Lake Syvash.

Nordex contract partner for this project is Powerchina, which will build the wind farm for SyvashEnergoProm, a joint venture comprising NBT, a Norwegian project developer and Total Eren, a French renewable energy company.

Electricity generated from the Syvash wind farm will be sold to Energorynok, Ukraine’s state-owned electricity market operator. Once the entire wind farm is completed, it will generate about 840,000MWh of clean electricity, which can be supplied to 100,000 households, while offsetting nearly 465,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

Nordex CEO José Luis Blanco earlier said: “This order marks the perfect entry into the Ukrainian market. We are looking forward to collaborating with such experienced partners, and are proud that our turbine technology is to be used in what will be the largest wind farm in Ukraine.”

In March, the company announced new 5MW onshore wind turbine. The new turbine is an extension of its Delta4000 series, which already includes the N149/4.0-4.5 and the N133/4.8, turbines.

The new N149/5.X has been designed for moderate and light-wind areas and can also generate optimal electricity at sites with complex requirements. Besides the core markets in Europe, the new variant will also be available in South Africa, Australia and South America.

The new variant will be made available in different tower options, with up to a height of 164m, depending on the market. It also includes cold-climate version for operation at temperatures down to -30° C as well as an anti-icing system for rotor blades.
