Under the EPC contract, subject to signing of the terms, KBR will provide engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and startup of a nominal 5 million tons per annum (mtpa) LNG train 4 and associated gas pre-treatment plant at the facility.
KBR president and CEO Stuart Bradie said: “We are excited to be selected for this significant project, and to continue to grow our leadership position in gas monetization.
“This project is firmly in line with our stated corporate strategy to sign up the right work with the right clients and we appreciate FLNG’s confidence in KBR’s ability to deliver.”
The selection follows 9-month front-end engineering and design (FEED) verification, execution planning and EPC proposal process, KBR said.
In addition to increasing the Freeport LNG project’s total export capability to some 20 mtpa of LNG per year, the Train 4 project will create thousands of additional jobs in the US.
The 4th train, which will be similar to the first 3 trains at the facility, is planned to be constructed adjacent to the first three trains on Quintana Island. The first three trains have a design capacity of 4.64 mtpa.
KBR said in a statement: “It is expected that the fixed price EPC contract will be concluded within this quarter and will be followed by a Limited Notice to Proceed period which will include early engineering and commitment of critical long lead equipment orders.”
The firm expects the full notice to proceed to occur in the second half of 2019.
Similar to the first three trains, the Train 4 will use electric motors with variable frequency drive for the cooling and liquefaction compression power. This will result in negligible incremental emissions.
The first train of the Freeport LNG project is scheduled to be commissioned in 2019, followed by Train 2 and Train 3 in 2020.
