Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. welcomed the entry of the power generating station which would supply power to the province and the entire Western Visayas.

The PHP13.5bn ($332.26m) project at Sitio Puntales has been jointly undertaken by Philippine companies AC Energy, A. Brown Company, and Jin Navitas Resources, reports Sun Star.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, PCPC president Roel Castro said the coal-fired power station will use the circulating fluidized bed combustion technology.

Castro also noted that the power plant will use Alstom technology for its steam turbine and generator.

The target commercial dispatch for the generating station’s first unit of 135MW capacity is scheduled for the last quarter of 2015.

For the power plant project, North American company SNC Lavalin has been appointed as project manager while NLSC would be the preferred engineering, procurement and construction contractor.

NLSC is consortium comprised of First Northeast Electric Power Engineering, Liaoning Electric Power Survey & Design Institute, and Shenyang Electric Power Design Institute.
