Mr Stempel retired as chairman and CEO from General Motors in November 1992. He was named chairman and CEO in August 1990. Prior to serving as chairman, he had been president and COO of General Motors since September 1987.
Mr Stempel retired as CEO and chairman of Energy Conversion Devices (ECD), effective, respectively, August 2007 and December 2007. He became chairman of ECD in December 1995.
