State Grid won the contract along with its Brazilian partners – Companhia Paranaense de Energia or Copel, and Furnas Centrais Eletricas, reported The Wall Street Journal.
The contract involves developing and operating a network of power lines and substations that will transmit energy from Belo Monte to Brazil’s south and south-eastern states.
It will include construction of a 967km transmission line, 500 kilovolt(kV) transmission line, and four 500kV transformer substations.
Upon the completion of the project, State Grid will operate a total of 9,931km of transmission lines in Brazil.
The company said that the project will generate first-year allowable revenue of BRL100m ($48m).
In November, State Grid general manager Liu Zhenya said that the company aims to increase its overseas assets from $8bn to $30bn by 2020.
