The cost to build the BHD7.2m ($18m) power plant has been fully financed by the Petroleum Development Company (Tatweer).
The power plant was inaugurated by Minister of State for Electricity and Water Affairs Dr. Abdulhussein bin Ali Mirza.
The Ministry is expected to launch a series of similar electric power plants with a capacity of 66 KV and 220 KV by 2012.
In December 2009, Tatweer Petroleum assumed responsibility for the stewardship and redevelopment of the Bahrain Field.
