On 5 December, the plant’s power generation dropped from 1,080mw to 600mw, due to national system collapse, ultimately leading to a shutdown of the station.
Egbin Power Plant chief executive officer Mike Uzoigbe informed the News Agency of Nigeria that the plant’s five of the six turbines have now started working at full capacity.
"Egbin is generating at 1,030 megawatts capacity on five turbines, which is being distributed based on demand," Uzoigbe added.
Japanese company Marubeni Power International was awarded the contract to repair the faulty turbine. Once repaired, the sixth unit will contribute 220MW to the grid and the facility will operate at its full capacity of 1,320MW.
The country has committed to spend NGN1.5bn ($9m) to repair the faulty turbine.
The biggest power generating plant in Nigeria, the Egbin plant has six turbines, each with a capacity of 220MW.
