The IBA allows NWT Métis Nation and De Beers to work together over the life of the mine, to develop economic, environmental and cultural programs.

De Beers Canada COO Glen Koropchuk said: "De Beers is committed to sustainable development and through this Agreement the NWT Métis Nation members can access new employment, training and business opportunities while ensuring strong environmental and cultural programs."

De Beers will hold 51% stake and operate the Gahcho Kué project, while Mountain Province Diamonds will hold the remaining share.

During the construction phase, Gahcho Kué will create around 700 jobs and approximately 400 jobs on commencing operations.

In July, the companies have signed an IBA with Lutsel K’e Dene First Nation for the Gahcho Kué project.
