If approved by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC), Vectren will provide proven conservation and energy efficiency programs to residential and commercial electric customers in southwestern Indiana.

The conservation connection program components will include additional incentives for Vectren’s energy management program, rebates on compact fluorescent lamp light bulbs, and on-site audits and assistance programs for qualifying customers.

With the expiration of a 100MW power purchase agreement in 2009, Vectren is confronted with the need to provide power on peak demand days. The utility’s request to build a natural gas fired peaking unit is designed for a quick, clean response when called upon to meet customer demand.

If approved, the $80 million investment will be located in Gibson County, Indiana, east of Ft Branch on a 55-acre rural parcel currently owned by Vectren. The proposed schedule would call for the unit to be on line in 2010.
