CGN Uranium Resources chairman Zhou Zhenxing was quoted by Reuters as saying: "Canada’s uranium reserves are among the largest in the world and we hope to cooperate with Canadian enterprises to complete the mission."

The company already operates uranium projects in Namibia, Kazakhstan and Australia.

Zhenxing said that the negotiations with Canadian officials are underway; however, further details have not been disclosed.

According to the World Nuclear Association China will require around 40,000 tons of primary uranium by 2030.

The country meets around three quarters of its uranium demand from overseas.

Chinese nuclear firms have been working to secure supplies, and are increasing exploration efforts as well.
