The order has been awarded Vestas after a competitive process initiated one year ago. The official signature of the contract between EDPR and Vestas will take place in Lisbon, Portugal.

The contract, a Master Supply Agreement (MSA) for up to 2,100MW, consists of a firm order for supply, installation and commissioning of wind turbines with a total capacity of 1,500MW to be delivered to North America, South America and Europe in 2011 and 2012 with the possibility to be extended by an additional 600MW exercisable in 2010 and 2011.

The agreement also includes a two-year service and maintenance agreement extendable to five or ten years, with subsequent technical assistance agreement for an additional period.

Juan Araluce, president of Vestas Mediterranean, said: “We are very pleased to sign this important agreement with EDPR, who is a global key player in the wind energy industry, with whom at the end of 2009, Vestas had installed a total capacity of approximately 2,500MW worldwide representing around 40% of EDPR’s total global wind capacity.”
