The solar energy system will produce approximately 57,623kWh of electricity annually and will save Suffolk Transportation approximately $10,718 in electricity costs per year. It will also offset more than 71,610 pounds of carbon dioxide.

Kevin Harvey, general manager of Mercury Solar Systems, said: “The Long Island commercial solar market continues to rapidly develop. LIPA’s cash rebates reduce the initial investment of going solar by 50% and the federal tax credit reduces it by an additional 30%.

“For a commercial solar system that translates into an extremely attractive return on investment that will generate pollution free electricity savings up to 40 years. We believe these financials are very compelling and have increased our internal resources to meet the needs of this growing customer base in 2010 and beyond.”

Mercury Solar Systems designs and installs solar electric and solar thermal energy systems for the commercial and residential marketplace and to date has installed over 1,000 solar systems.
