According to the company, the site’s proximity to the Campbeltown airport and local communities, and its impact on recreational sailing in the area are the factors that led to decide not to proceed further with the development of the wind farm.
The company’s west coast development effort will now be focused on a wind farm site, 13km off the west coast of Islay.
SSE was granted exclusive rights to develop both the sites by the Crown Estate in February 2009.
The company is expected to submit an application to develop the Islay site to the Scottish government around the end of 2013.
