The Commonwealth Chesapeake power station was purchased by Tenaska Power Fund (TPF) in 2005. The sale is expected to close in the first quarter of 2008. The purchase price was not disclosed.

The plant delivers energy to the PJM regional power reliability grid serving large areas in the east, northeast and midwest of the US. The power station includes seven simple-cycle gas turbine electric generator sets capable of producing 315MW of electricity.

The plant was built on a 126-acre tract on the Delmarva Peninsula in two phases, the first in 2000 and second in 2001. Fuel oil is used to fuel the electric generating station. It has spinning reserve capacity on four turbines to provide a ready and reliable regional power source.

Karl Usami, president and CEO of Tyr Energy, said: Tyr Energy is very excited to own the Chesapeake facility, which will form an important component of our growing portfolio of generating assets in North America.
