Ralph Izzo, PSE’s chairman and chief executive officer said that license renewals could take around 12 years before a new nuclear unit in southern New Jersey would be up and operating.
Izzo said that the company plans to submit an early site permit application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in the spring of 2010. NRC is estimated to take two to three years to review site permit application. And if approved, PSEG would then have to submit an application for additional permit, which the NRC would take around four years to review. If apporved, the construction of the new nuclear unit would take an additional four to five years to construct.
