With these contracts, the company has now a total of five mini-hydro projects that can yield approximately 55MW of aggregate capacity. Earlier, the company secured a service contract to develop an 18MW mini-hydro power plant in Timbaban River, Aklan province.

The new contracts include a 15MW Culaman run-of-river hydro power project in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon worth PHP2.2bn; and three service contracts worth PHP3.1bn, for the upper, middle and lower cascades of the Odiongan River in Misamis Oriental, with total total expected output of 22MW.

According to Caroline Tanchay, president of Oriental Energy, the new hydro power projects are in line with the DOE’s efforts to address the country’s power shortage without depending on fossil fuels, which cause pollution.
