The move is said to form a part of GSA’s 2020 renewable energy goal.
The 10-year contract will require MG2 to supply 140MW of clean wind energy from the Walnut Ridge Wind Farm, which is currently under development in northwest Illinois.
The energy to be supplied will add more than 500,000MWh of electricity to the power grid annually.
GSA Administrator Dan Tangherlini said: "As part of GSA’s commitment to greening the federal government, we are working to ensure that we don’t just use energy but create it as well.
"This project will add to the power grid in a sustainable way and ensure that we become less dependent on fossil fuels. We are proud of our progress toward meeting the federal government’s renewable energy goals, and look forward to taking advantage of future opportunities that will help us with this effort."
MG2 president Mark Romero said: "This contract represents an important step forward in the history of the Mesa Grande Band because it is entirely consistent with our historic concern for Mother Earth and the continued availability of clean water, land, and air for future generations. Few other economic development opportunities enable us to remain so true to our cultural and spiritual values."
MG2 Tribal Energy is a joint venture between the Mesa Grande Band of Mission Indians, a federally-recognized Native American tribe, and wine energy developer Geronimo Energy.
