facility

The new facility, located on the premises of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ (MHI) Nagasaki Research & Development Center,Japan, features the measuring/monitoring systems.

With capacity of 4t of coal combustion per hour, the facility is the result of the integration of combustion technologies of MHI and Hitachi and aims to achieve more advanced combustion technologies, which is the core factor in boiler business.

Additionally, the new combustion testing facility for thermal power generation boiler has reached goal for accurate simulation for both combustion condition and fluid condition inside a real boiler furnace.

The facility also met the aim to support cutting-edge technological development, including more sophisticated measurement equipment to evaluate combustion and fluidity.

Capable of accommodating a wide variety of fuels actually used in boilers such as bituminous coal, subbituminous coal, lignite, anthracite, biomass, oil, coke and residual oil, the facility can be used for MHPS’ circular firing type of MHI, and the opposed firing type of Hitachi (BHK).

The new testing facility is expected to help to reduce fuel costs, improve availability and ease environmental impacts by significantly enhancing combustion evaluation capability for inexpensive low-grade fuels.

The new combustion test facility will be used by the company to accelerate development activities to seek higher performance in combustion technologies.
