The project is expected to boost the 132/11kV power transmission network by connecting the substations to existing power networks to increase efficiency and reliability.

Additionally, the new projects are part of the company’s aims to improve the power transmission network capacity and efficiency.

DEWA MD and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said: "DEWA is working to achieve its vision to become a sustainable world-class utility, by continuously expanding and enhancing its capabilities and services, and provide the required supply of electricity in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

"These efforts also meet the increasing demand for electricity from all customer segments and promote the position of Dubai as a global hub for trade, finance, tourism and sustainability.

"The 6 projects, totalling 90 million dirhams, include supply, excavation work, and laying, testing, and commissioning of new 132 kV cables and connecting them to the 132/11kV substations in Jebel Ali, Burj Khalifa area, Dubai Land, Al Quoz, and Nad Al Sheba.

"Connecting these substations to the existing ones in these vital areas in Dubai will increase efficiency, reliability, and ensure stable and uninterrupted supply to all customers at all times," Tayer said.

In addition to addressing the requirements of the different sectors of the local economy, DEWA intends to maintain a margin of reserve to fulfil any other requirements that might arise.

Work on the projects has started at the end of September 2013.
