The publication said that according to a statement by Suez Energie Brasil, the deal outlines terms and conditions for supplies without actually specifying volumes or pricing.

Petrobras will begin importing liquefied natural gas (LNG) from 2008, when the first LNG regasification terminal is expected come online. There is a growing demand for LNG in Brazil and the region plans to import more than 20 million cubic meters of LNG a day to feed this demand, Reuters said. There is speculation that more LNG terminals are expected to be built in the near future as demand heats up even more.

Suez is already one of Brazil’s leading private electricity producers. The LNG imports are to be chiefly used for gas-powered plants in Brazil. Suez has a substantial presence in LNG markets across the Atlantic.
