Neptune Energy and its partners have commenced production from the Duva oil and gas field in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

The production has been started after the project partners received start up consent for the Duva development from the Norwegian authorities in July this year.

Consisting of three oil producers and one gas producer, Duva is developed as a subsea installation that is tied back to the Neptune Energy-operated Gjøa semi-submersible platform. The project involved an investment of NOK5.1bn ($570m).

According to the company, Duva was implemented in parallel with the Gjøa P1 development, which started production in February this year, to maximise efficiency.

Located 14km northeast of the Gjøa field at a water depth of 340m, Duva is estimated to contain total reserves are 71 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe), of which 56 % is gas.

The Duva project is expected to add approximately 30 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (kboepd) to the Gjøa facility.

Neptune Energy’s Managing Director in Norway, Odin Estensen, said: “Duva is an excellent example of a successful fast-track development, with production beginning less than five years after its discovery.

“Tied back to existing infrastructure, it has been delivered efficiently and under budget through strong collaboration with our partners and key suppliers, and is expected to have one of the lowest CO2 emissions per produced barrel of oil equivalent (boe) on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

“The start-up of Duva further strengthens Neptune’s position in the northern part of the North Sea, a strategically important growth area for the global business.”

Idemitsu Petroleum Norge, PGNiG Upstream Norway and Sval Energi are Neptune Energy’s partners in the Duva field. Neptune Energy is the operator with a stake of 30% in the field, which is its first discovery in the Norwegian North Sea.

The plan for development and operation (PDO) of the Duva field in 2019. The field was discovered in 216.

With operations across the North Sea, North Africa and the Asia Pacific, Neptune Energy had production of 142,000 net barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2020 and 2P reserves of 601 million barrels of oil equivalent as of 31 December last year.
