The power plant includes two 5.5MW gas turbines and a 2.4MW steam turbine.
This $125m CoGen upgrade took 28 months to complete and provides electricity to 22 NYU buildings.
According to NYU, the project approaches 90% energy efficiency and decreases greenhouse gas emissions by about 23% while reducing air pollutants by 68% compared to its 30-year old, oil-fired CoGen predecessor.
The new plant avoids the combustion of about 500,000 gallons of fuel oil annually.
