Under the NOK1.8bn ($280m) contract, FMC will supply a subsea production system featuring two integrated template manifolds with respective trees and auxiliary equipment.

The contract also includes delivery of the dynamic and the static umbilical, a production riser base, a subsea umbilical termination unit, and a subsea control system.

Located about 200km from Trondheim on the Halten Terrace in the Norwegian Sea, the Maria field is expected to produce about 130 million barrels of oil and more than 2 billion standard cubic meters of gas.

Wintershall plans to connect the Maria field through existing infrastructure to the producing Kristin, Heidrun and Åsgard fields via two subsea templates.

Wintershall Norge managing director Bernd Schrimpf said: "Maria is our first subsea development in Norway and we are consequently building our expertise in this field.

"Wintershall sees future potential for more developments of this kind on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and Norway is becoming a center of excellence for this kind of work."

Wintershall Norge holds 50% stake in the field while Petoro and Centrica hold 30% and 20% interests respectively.
