Zhang said China would further pace up the construction of wind power farms to add related producing capacity by around one billion watts per year, and also make China the largest consumer of renewable energy in the world.

China’s wind power industry has developed rapidly in recent years due to Chinese government’s incentive policies for wind power generation to make renewable energy utilization account for 15% of its total energy production.

Zhang Guobao said that China intended to increase the proportion of nuclear power generation in total energy to at least 5%. By the end of 2008, the installed capacity of nuclear power accounted to 9.1 billion watts in China, with another 22.9 billion watts in process.
