Sunland Minerals, a 50:50 joint venture of Russian diamond producer Alrosa and Botswana Diamonds, has managed the drilling activity.

As part of the program, two holes were drilled on each of two anomalies AN117/1 and AN117/2.

Drilling on hole 117/1-1 and 117/1-2 was targeted at the center of a complex geophysical and mineralogical anomaly respectively. No kimberlites were identified on anomaly AN117/2, the company said.

Targets, AN117/1 and AN117/2, are located in the Northern part of the 2.9km² block.

Samples are being processed and the exploration is underway.

Botswana Diamonds chairman John Teeling said: "The discovery of kimberlite type material in holes 3 and 4 is very encouraging.

"This is the first time that Alrosa exploration technology has been applied in Botswana and these results support its use. We will now refine the model."
