Mr Purvis has been a director of Straits Asia since its initial public offering in November 2006 and was responsible for the original development of the company’s Sebuku coal mine in 1997. He is currently CEO of PTT Asia Pacific Mining, which controls 46% of Straits Asia’s shares.

Mr Ong took up the role of CEO of Straits Asia in May 2007. Since that time, he has had an influence on Straits Asia’s strategic development and market performance. Mr Ong and Mr Purvis were the key drivers behind the decision to acquire the Jembayan Mine in December 2007 as part of a diversified growth plan for the group, Straits Asia said.
