Located at 14.5 km east of Dongara, Western Australia on an agricultural land, the Senecio-3 well is 7km from the AWE-operated Dongara gas plant.

The joint venure partners in L1/L2 are AWE and Origin Energy Resources. Both the companies have 50% interests each in L1/L2.

As reported earlier, the primary target Dongara/Wagina formation was intersected on prognosis.

Based on the well data and existing 3D seismic, contingent resources for the Dongara/Wagina formation are estimated to be from 40 to 130 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of gas gross.

The best estimate 2C contingent resource was later revised upwards to 70 Bcf gross.

The company observed elevated gas and the Senecio-3 well was drilled to a total depth of 3,370m to review underlying secondary targets.

Below the primary target, a significant gas discovery was identified in the deeper sands. This has the potential to contain a more larger volume than the gas accumulation in the Dongara/Wagina.

The joint venture plans to review the new discovery on a high priority basis.

Currently, AWE is reviewing wireline logs and other data from the deeper discovery to assess potential volumes and to determine any further work plans.
