At present, the Delabole facility has 10 400KW wind turbines, generating on average of 10,000MWh per year, which is sufficient to supply the equivalent domestic energy needs of 3,000 homes annually. The so-called repowering initiative is part of the company’s plans to enhance its position in the renewable power generation segment.
Good Energy said that consultations are currently taking place with the North Cornwall District Council and that scientific studies are underway to plan the most efficient and least disruptive model for the proposed repowering.
The company’s board will be seeking planning permission towards the end of the year, once the consultation is satisfied that the most appropriate solution has been identified. The anticipated timescale of the repowering is expected to take two to three years to completion.
