According to local newspaper reports, the company is currently in talks with planners concerning the possible extension of the Norfolk power plant, which would see the creation of around 1,000 jobs.

The enlarged power station would be able to provide electricity to up to 700,000 homes and could be commissioned in 2012 or 2013, assuming planning permission is granted.

We have made no commitment to build and, dependant on our internal analysis, we may submit a planning application later this year or early 2008, a spokesman told Lynn News.

This news follows the announcement that EDF Energy has applied for approval to build a gas-fired power station of its own around 10 miles from the Centrica site, in Lincolnshire. EDF’s plant would be able to provide electricity for around 1.5 million homes and could be fully operational by 2010, the Eastern Daily Press reported.
