The contract has been signed with Daya Bay Nuclear Power Operations and Management Company, Ling Ao Nuclear Power Company and Ling Dong Nuclear Power Company.

The project is scheduled to begin immediately and the simulators will enter into service in the first quarter of 2015.

L-3 MAPPS marketing and sales vice president Michael Chatlani said: "Through these updates, we expect to introduce a higher level of consistency between the older Ling Ao and the newer Ling Ao Phase II simulators, while improving the fidelity of the Ling Ao simulator’s reactor model."

As part of the project, L-3’s Orchid core builder, a graphical utility for the creation and validation of cycle-specific reactor core data, will be installed to update the fuel cycle data on the two full scope simulators for the Ling Ao Phase II nuclear plant.

The builder will also be integrated to the Ling Ao full scope simulator to make it consistent with the Ling Ao Phase II simulators.

Additionally, the original Comet reactor model will be replaced with the Comet Plus model, and a similar fuel cycle update will be carried out.

Owned by Ling Dong Nuclear Power, the Ling Ao Phase II nuclear plant includes first two CPR1000 nuclear generating units. Ling Ao Nuclear Power owns Ling Ao 1&2 (Phase I), which comprises two 938MW three-loop AREVA PWRs.

Ling Dong Nuclear Power Company owns Ling Ao 3&4 (Phase II) which comprises 2x1080MW CPR1000 reactors. All four units are operated by Daya Bay Nuclear Power Operations and Management Company.
