Uramin operates primarily in Namibia and central and South Africa, and also has uranium development joint ventures in Canada. In addition, Uramin has three uranium projects that are due to commence production by the end of 2009.
According to Reuters, Uramin has been evaluating its asset portfolio because renewed interest in nuclear power generation has sparked consolidation in the uranium sector.
Although Reuters reported that Uramin has confirmed that it is in talks to sell the company, the publication said that it has not named prospective buyers.
Reuters also cited Areva spokesman Julien Duperray as saying in an emailed statement: We do confirm that we are discussing with UraMin, as well as some other junior companies. We assume that they are discussing with other potential partners.
Areva produces uranium as well as being the world’s largest nuclear plant construction firm.
