Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has announced that RWE has chosen the HPE Private Cloud AI solution to harness advanced insights from weather data.
Researchers at RWE’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Laboratory will use this AI-optimised, turnkey private cloud platform to refine, evaluate, and implement weather models. This initiative aims to leverage cutting-edge AI technologies to improve operational decision-making and support RWE’s position as a leader in renewable energy.
RWE Supply & Trading Commercial AI head Simon Tarplee said: “As a leading provider of renewable energy, RWE is at the forefront of balancing the increasing power demands of the modern world with the societal challenge of protecting the climate.
“We see AI as a key enabler that allows us to optimise our processes and create new, sustainable solutions, and set the ambitious goal to have a production training capable solution in-place by the end of 2024. With HPE Private Cloud AI, we will have a turnkey solution that helps us to improve our forecast accuracy and optimize energy resource management globally.”
RWE’s adoption of HPE’s AI solutions aligns with its strategic growth initiative, Growing Green, which underscores the company’s commitment to the energy transition. RWE is actively expanding its renewable energy portfolio, which includes new onshore and offshore wind farms, solar parks, and battery storage systems. The company is also decarbonising its operations to meet its net-zero target by 2040, adhering to the 1.5-degree reduction pathway.
RWE selected HPE Private Cloud AI, a core component of the NVIDIA AI Computing by HPE portfolio, for its ability to streamline deployment and efficiently process the extensive data required for weather modelling.
The solution incorporates retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to extract actionable insights, and its on-premise setup allows RWE to deploy new AI infrastructure within their existing policies. This capability enables rapid experimentation and scaling of AI-driven projects across various domains and geographic regions.
Developed in collaboration with NVIDIA, HPE Private Cloud AI offers a platform-based experience via HPE GreenLake. This cloud platform facilitates the management of infrastructure, automation of processes, and orchestration of data, workloads, and sustainability metrics. By simplifying these operations, RWE’s research team can focus entirely on AI model development, accelerating time-to-market and bolstering the company’s competitiveness in the energy sector.
