The sites are Berkeley, Bradwell, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A and Sizewell A. According to Platts, Berkeley, Bradwell and Hinkley Point A are all currently being decommissioned, while the Dungeness A and Sizewell A sites finished generating electricity in December 2006.

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) said that the company or consortium that wins the tender will form a parent body organization (PBO) that will employ the workforces at the sites. In addition, the winner will also own shares in the Magnox Site Licensing Company for the period of the contract.

The NDA added that the PBO will also provide key managers to the sites to provide innovation and strategic direction. According to the NDA, the license company spends approximately GBP225 million per annum. As a result, the fee for the contract is related to the annual spend, risk and opportunities, and performance.

According to Platts, this is the third site management competition to be held in just over a year. Concurrent with the launch of the Magnox competition, the NDA has also revealed that Energy Solutions and Jacobs have withdrawn from the competition to form a PBO for the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing site.
