ECI Telecom, a provider of networking infrastructure services, has announced that it has been selected by RTE, engaged in the transport of electricity in France, for a multi-million dollar project to transport mission-critical applications in the carrier’s high-voltage power environment.

With approximately 100,000km of high and extra-high voltage lines and 36 cross-border lines, RTE is responsible for operating, maintaining and developing the French electricity transmission network, said ECI Telecom.

ECI’s BroadGate platform will contribute to support the carrier’s nationwide utility network, addressing the carrier’s requirements for service and capabilities in the provisioning of real-time and mission-critical services throughout the network.

Gerard Pellerin, RTE’s operation and control director, said: “ECI’s ability to support low-speed, legacy applications, provided us with the optimal service for our nationwide network deployment.”

ECI Telecom delivers communications platforms to carriers and service providers worldwide. Founded in 1961, the Israel-based company has delivered networking services also to the carriers.

RTE is the French electricity transmission system operator. It is a public service company responsible for operating, maintaining and developing voltage network. RTE transports electricity between electricity suppliers (French and European) and consumers, whether they are electricity distributors (ERDF and the local distribution companies) or industrial consumers directly connected to the transmission system.
