The project is expected  to serve the growing demand for natural gas in Northeastern US.

It includes construction of about 10 miles of pipeline looping facilities, three miles of onshore looping facilities, 23 miles of offshore looping facilities, the addition of 21,902 horsepower at an existing compressor station; a new compressor station; and related appurtenant facilities.

Scheduled to be commissioned in December 2019, the project is expected to create 400,000 dekatherms per day of incremental firm transportation capacity to markets in the northeastern US for the 2019/2020 winter heating season.

National Grid New York president Ken Daly said: “Williams’ Northeast Supply Enhancement project expands on our commitment to further improve reliability, make available much-needed gas capacity to support job growth, and help reduce our carbon footprint.

"This project complements the existing Brooklyn Queens Interconnect/Rockaway Lateral Project, which was completed last spring, and was the first new gas supply delivery point in decades for National Grid customers in this region.”

For firm transportation service, Transco has already signed precedent agreements with subsidiaries of National Grid under the project.

Williams Partners Atlantic-Gulf operating area senior vice-president Rory Miller said that the Northeast Supply Enhancement project is expected to add critical infrastructure required to meet the growing demand for natural gas in the region while helping in reducing air emissions.

The project is expected to help meet the natural gas demand in the Northeast, including the 1.8 million customers served by National Grid in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and Long Island.
