According to the copany, the country’s new gas power plants will run on natural gas or oil and are to be built at Rumaila-Basra, Taza-Kirkuk, Dibis-Kirkuk, Baiji and Sadder-Baghdad. Siemens will supply a total of 16 high-efficiency gas turbines with a total generation capacity of 3,150MW.

The company’s scope services comprises high-voltage switchgear and transformers in addition to the electrical balance of plant, as well as the instrumentation and control systems for the power plants. The plants will be erected by the customer or by general contractors.

Wolfgang Dehen, member of the executive management group at Siemens and the Energy Sector division’s CEO, said: When these new power plants go on line in 2010 and 2011, they will contribute to improve the country’s power supply situation, which is currently affected by daily power outages.

At the same time, this order underlines the development of our product business, which is set to expand its share of our overall business volume.
