As per the plans, the 50-year-old, 230,000 volt transmission line will be reconstructed on 58 miles of the current right-of-way between Delmarva’s Red Lion, Cedar Creek, and Milford substations.

The first phase of the project, which will re-connect Red Lion and Cedar Creek, is due to start in June 2015 with planned completion in December 2016.

Phase two, which will connect Cedar Creek to Milford, is anticipated to start in June 2016 with planned completion in December 2017.

The project, which is expected to cost about $71m, includes replacing existing circuits and over 400 wooden polls with all-weather steel poles.

Delmarva Power region president Gary Stockbridge said the rebuilt transmission line will help avoid extended power outages if a major problem occurs with transmission and generation infrastructure.

"This project is one in a series of transmission system enhancements we are making to maintain reliability on the Delmarva Peninsula," Stockbridge added.
