ABB said that it will deliver air- and gas-insulated substations and two units of gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), as well as breakers, instrument transformers and surge arresters, and a MicroSCADA supervisory control and data acquisition system that will monitor and control the substations.

The order was booked in June 2008, and deliveries are scheduled to begin in late 2008. ABB will be responsible for installation and the commissioning, which is planned for April 2009, said ABB.

Peter Leupp, head of ABB’s power systems division, said: “ABB recently completed a substation delivery for AzerEnerji, and we are pleased to have been entrusted with another order.”

Earlier in the same week of October 2008, ABB signed a $20-million contract with the operator of Albania’s electricity transmission network for a system that will improve the reliability of the grid by monitoring and controlling high-voltage transmission.

ABB is engaged in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to lower environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 120,000 people, claims the company.
