The company is a consortium comprising John Laing and wind developers Infinergy with John Laing an 80:20 shareholding pattern in favor of John Laing.
Infinergy developed the plans for project and will also provide asset management services at Wear Point along with its parent company KDE Energy.
The wind farm is estimated to cost £14.3m and will employ the 99.9m MM82 turbines manufactured by Mabey Bridge in Chepstow, each with a generating capacity of 2.05MW.
REpower UK has been selected to provide wind turbine technology, hubs, blades and other related services for a 15 year-term while Statkraft signed a power purchase agreement to procure the electricity generated for the same period.
Installation of the wind turbines and supporting infrastructure is expected to begin in 2013 with the project expected to achievecommercial operations by the end of the year.
Infinergy managing director Esbjorn Wilmar remarked that the project was under development for the past four years and has now advanced to the next stage.
"I am delighted that John Laing has come on board to invest in and co-own the wind farm and I hope that this will be the start of a fruitful cooperation between our two companies," Wilmar said.
