As a part of the investment, a new manufacturing facility will be established in East Riding in the Humber region to produce rotor blades for the 6MW IntegralBlade® turbines.

The other project to receive Siemens investments is the Green Port Hull site, which has been under development for the last four years and will reach Round 3 requirements in 2016.

Associated British Ports (ABP), Siemens port partner, will invest a further £150m in Green Port Hull.

The rotor blade production facility will become operational in 2016 and reach full capacity a year later.

The blade manufacturing facility will create 550 jobs and the Green Port Hull project 450.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron said, "This is a massive vote of confidence in our long-term economic plan. This investment is going to create lots of new jobs and opportunities, meaning more financial security and peace of mind for families and a more resilient economy for our country."

Siemens managing board member and energy sector CEO Michael Suess that the company’s decision to construct a production facility for offshore wind turbines in England is part of its global strategy: it invests in markets with reliable conditions that can ensure that factories can work to capacity.

"The British energy policy creates a favourable framework for the expansion of offshore wind energy. In particular, it recognizes the potential of offshore wind energy within the overall portfolio of energy production," Suess added.
