Under the deal, Mitsubishi will build the power station in Huasco, Atacama Region. This order marks the fifth unit ordered by Guacolda to Mitsubishi. The unit 5 is likely to be operational in September 2015.

Earlier, Mitsubishi had received orders for the 150MW unit 1 and 2, and for the 152MW unit 3 and 4.

The new plant will sit adjacent to the four units previously delivered by Mitsubishi. It will be built in Huasco, about 700km north of Santiago.

The power station will comprise a steam turbine, steam condenser, boiler, generator, and removal systems for sulfur oxides (SOx) and nitrogen oxides (NOx).

Mitsubishi will manufacture and supply all major equipment, except the generator and electrical equipment which will be manufactured and supplied by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation.

As per the order agreement, the Japanese conglomerate will be responsible for the construction work at the site.

The Chilean firm involves in generation, transmission, distribution, and sale of electric power in the country. It also operates the 304MW Guacolda Thermoelectric power station.
