The delivery follows an eight-month long-term test, conducted in Kinectrics in Toronto, Canada, to confirm that the different cable types meet ENEC’s stringent operational and safety requirements.
A total 16 million feet of cables are scheduled to be supplied by Ducab to ENEC for non-class 1E power and lighting in the four units at the Barakah nuclear site.
ENEC chief executive officer Mohamed Al Hammadi said the delivery of the first consignment of Ducab cables represents a significant milestone in the development of UAE’s NPP and supporting its goal for economic diversification.
"Nuclear energy will provide a safe, clean, reliable and efficient source of electricity that will help to power the UAE’s rapid economic growth,"Al Hammadi added.
Ducab Technical & Quality general manager Hassan Omar said,"Our dedicated team has been working diligently since 2011 to develop this range of premium and extended long-life cables made to American & NQA Standards."
ENEC is working with KEPCO and multiple UAE companies to ensure that they meet the strict quality, safety and technical standards it has set for suppliers looking to tender for the contract packages.
