Located in southern Kuwait about 60km from Kuwait City, the refinery covers a total area of around 7.9km2 and has a daily output capacity of 145,000 barrels per day (bpd).

Mina Abdullah Refinery Deputy Managing Director Ahmad Al-Jemaz was quoted by Kuwait News Agency as saying that the maintenance operations of the refinery units were completed ahead of schedule.

KNPC is also planning to expand the capacity of the facility and produce low-sulphur content and eco-friendly fuels at the plant.

Originally built in 1958 by American Independent Oil Company, the refinery had only one crude oil distillation unit with 30,000 bpd capacity and currently it has a crude processing capacity of 270 million barrels per day.

The refinery also has atmospheric residue desulfurization units, delayed coking units, hydrocracker unit, distillate hydrotreaters, and supporting units.
